Festival season is officially here and whether you’re headed to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival or just bringing that energy into your own plans, one thing is certain:
Flower crowns are making their way back to your timeline.
They’ve become a signature part of festival style — a perfect mix of music, art, culture, and self-expression. And the best part? You don’t have to be in the desert to join in. Making flower crowns at home with friends is half the fun of pulling together the perfect festival look.
Here’s how to get started:
Choose Flowers That Can Keep Up
Not all flowers are built for a full day of wear, so you’ll want blooms that are a little sturdier and can hold their shape.
Great options include:
🌸 Spray Roses
🌸 Mini Carnations
🌸 Daisies or mini gerbera
🌸 Waxflower or other small fillers
🌸 Greenery like eucalyptus or ruscus
These types of flowers are often included in many of our current spring Bloom Box recipes, which makes it easy to pull together a mix that feels cohesive without overthinking it.
Gather Your Materials
You can go two ways here, depending on your comfort level:
Option 1: Floral Wire Crown (more traditional)
🌸 Floral wire
🌸 Floral tape
🌸 Ribbon and beads (optional, for tying in the back)
Option 2: Headband Base (easier + beginner-friendly)
🌸 A hard headband
🌸 Hot glue gun + glue sticks
Both work. The headband method is great if you want something quick and a little more structured.
Build Your Crown
Start by making sure your flowers are well hydrated. Once they go onto your crown, they won’t be able to take on more water, so this step is key.
Once hydrated, trim your flowers into small, manageable stems.
If you’re using wire:
🌸 Twist and shape the wire to create a base that fits your head
🌸 Bundle small groupings of flowers
🌸 Attach them using floral tape, layering as you go
If you’re using a headband:
🌸 Glue greenery first to create a base
🌸 Layer in your focal flowers
🌸 Fill in gaps with smaller blooms
There’s no perfect formula here, just keep it balanced and go with what looks good to you.
Make It a Moment
Flower crowns are even better when you make them with other people. Think pre-festival hangs by the pool, backyard or rooftop afternoons, or a casual get-together where everyone creates their own.
Put on a festival playlist, lay the flowers out, and let it be a creative moment; not just a final product.
Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about how it looks.
It’s about how it feels to make it. 🌸
